Bubble tea and other delicious delights
If tea’s your tipple you really need to get yourself down to Plymouth Market’s newest eatery and try a glass of bubble tea – it’ll knock your socks off!
New café, Tea and Bun, is the brainchild of Pond Hosakun, the master chef behind Plymouth’s number one restaurant on TripAdvisor, @Kitchen. Pond has been looking to extend her Far Eastern offering to the discerning foodies of Plymouth and has come up with a great new venue and mix of delicious food and drinks to eat in or take away.
Serving up tasty Asian treats
Tea and Bun is situated in one of the Market’s Cornwall Street shops and can be accessed straight from the Market or from the street. Newly spruced up with a funky urban theme the café will offer tasty Asian treats such as steamed buns, stuffed with a mouth-watering range of fillings suitable for both meat eaters and veggies and, of course, the intriguing sounding bubble tea.
Explaining Bubble Tea
So what is bubble tea? Usually made from a base of tea, (green or black) bubble tea is created by adding milk, sugar and the ‘bubbles’, such as popping boba – round balls full of fruit or syrup flavours. Usually served cold, the fun is all about trying different combinations and creating your favourite blend.
Pond says:” My new venture Tea and Bun is all about giving more choice to customers. As well as filled steamed harita buns we’ll be offering ramen noodles in broth and different savoury snacks from fried gyoza to takoyaki (squid balls). There are gluten free and vegan options too.
“The menu is small but varied. By keeping it small we can make everything fresh, as quality and taste is so important to us. It will be a great place for families as there’s something for everyone.”
Plymouth Market for amazing food
The Market’s food offering has been steadily growing over the last 12 months since the £3.2million refit was finished and it’s fast becoming the venue to try out new cuisine ideas, both for entrepreneurs and diners. Along with the well-established mezzanine cafes, a Taste of Thailand, and very popular newcomers Knead Pizza, Tilt, @Kitchen and The Pasta Hut, the Market has recently become home to the Sip A Soup and Stew bar, serving up freshly made tasty and nutritious, gluten free foods, and FroYo Island, a calypso-themed dessert bar, full of tempting toppings and delicious homemade frozen yogurt bases, ready for you to mix and match and create your own special concoction.
